Quite a number of people preferred having credit cards, checks, and debit cards as an alternative for cash. Obviously, their reasons are comfort in handling, convenience in purchasing, secure in stealing, and flexible in paying. These cash alternatives have been increasingly patronize by individuals. The rising popularity of Internet transactions as promoted by either online stores and bank services and transactions have contributed to this growth.
However, several people still prefer cash as their primary option. They do not seem to care whether
what other people will offer as alternative for their cash. They are knowledgeable of how credit
cards, checks, and debit cards work and well-informed of the advantages of these alternatives. But
in their minds, cash is the safest way to make transactions.
One of the primary reasons is the acceptability of cash to any transactions. Of course, majority
of the establishments accept credit card payments but it does not mean all of them. You can still
see stores that do not allow credit card payment for any transaction. This will be inconvenient for
individuals who use credit card, check, or debit card if they do not have cash to purchase what they
want to have in a particular store.
Another good reason is the possibility of being tempted to go beyond your budget. With cash, you
are bound to be disciplined and stick with your budget. Otherwise, you will be restricted to purchase any further. Cash alternatives like credit cards or checks will give you freedom to purchase even beyond your financial capability. Then, you will be swamped with unpaid debts due to high interests and penalties incurred by your purchases. As a result, you will just be paying the interest per month while your principal balance continuously produces high interest rate and penalties due to non-payment.
Cash can purchase items of lower value but its alternative cannot. Purchasing a bottle of water for
less than a dollar using a credit card or check is impractical, if allowed. The process involved would cost much higher than the value being endorsed. This scenario restrained several stores from having alternative methods of payment other than cash for purchases. In addition, installations may add additional cost and devices for use in the card transactions may sometimes need maintenance and
consume space.
Credit card companies impose annual fees for their subscribers whether you make use of it or not.
This does not include the interests and other penalties applicable to any late payments due. These
interests and penalties can increase its rate at any given time after certain due process done by credit card companies. This may involve higher annual fees, late payments penalties, and unpaid balance interests.
Cash is secure as long as it is handled properly while credit cards are very prone to security issues. Online transactions especially when done in unsecured websites with malicious software program can get hold of your credit card information. This will enable these online thieves to reproduce your card and use it without your knowledge.
